Correction and treatment of malocclusion
The goals of orthodontic treatment are not only the even position of teeth and aesthetics of a smile, but also the harmonious development of the facial skeleton and aesthetics of the face.
Most often, patients complain about the wrong position of their teeth and an ugly smile. However, maxillary anomalies imply not only an uneven arrangement of teeth, but also a violation of the relative position or mismatch in the size of the jaws, irregularities in the shape of the dental arches, impaired function of the tongue, lips, and oral respiration.
Previously, it was believed that orthodontic treatment can be performed only during the formation of the dental system, i.e. in children and adolescents. Currently, new designs have appeared that allow orthodontic corrections to be performed with good results in both children and adults.
Types of bite
An occlusion is the closing of the teeth of the upper and lower jaw. Orthodontists call it occlusion.
There are several parameters by which the bite is classified as correct or incorrect.
When making a diagnosis, consider:
• how much the upper teeth overlap the lower ones;
• how teeth come into contact with each other;
• at what angle are they located;
• the presence of antagonists (teeth opposite);
• how the central axis is positioned.
When these indicators do not correspond to the norm, they indicate an incorrect bite.
